Five centuries ago, Tempest was a Dominican prior. A schoolmate, Tomás de Torquemada, Grand Inquisitor for all Spain, invited him to Castile. There, a tortured old woman accused him of being her warlock. And, so, it began. Tempest was placed on the Santa Maria, was abandoned on Hispaniola, and there the cacique of the cannibalistic Caribes transformed him into something not human.
Today, disquised as a fatherly priest in Little Havana, Tempest creates foment between the local Cuban gang -- the Ochos-- and the West Miami Rampage. Interest in teenage punks? Does Tempest have an ulterior motive? This is Tempest, of course he does.
Being the youngest police officer in Miami-Dade, and looking even younger, my captain put me in plainclothes and had me infiltrate a local street gang. No one suspected it would end in a gang war, incited by a soulless vampire.
This was not another turf war. There was something bigger behind it. I could feel it, even before Sammy returned, growing talons and craving human blood. I’m leader of Rampage, but I think I’ll have to call for a consult with Pierce. Pierce knows everything.
I’m an Ochos bitch. But I got like a mind, too. You think Kelly Vega listens to me? He thinks because he’s leader of the Ochos, the only person with any ideas is him. That’s why the Ochos will never expand into West Miami, no matter what Father Mercado says.
I may be just a kid, but I’ve given up a ton for Rampage. Including a couple fingers... and my humanity. I would follow Charlie Combat directly ino hell or places even worse.
Am I just a school custodian or something more. You’d think that kid on the bicycle could have figured me out by now. Didn’t take me long to spot him as a cop. Guess I’m just smarter than those punks that hang out in back of the school.
